This new photobook is a collection of uncompromising portraits of 27 individuals (including Brune herself), whose bodies fall outside of the so-called conventional beauty standards. For UNCOOL, Brune took pictures of and interviewed fellow wheelchair users, as well as amputees, cancer survivors, persons with Down syndrome, hearing loss, or vision impairment — and other conditions that society still often labels as disabilities and disorders.
UNCOOL is the product of her four-year-long project that began in 2022 and has since been nominated for several prestigious prizes. In 2026, Brune was shortlisted for the C/O Berlin Talent Award and selected as a finalist for the Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award at Rencontres d'Arles, where her work was part of a group exhibition at LUMA Arles.
