Marking Lauren Shaw’s return to photography after two decades of making documentary films, this new photobook is a poetic contemplation and embrace of life’s constant change. Through uncompromising pictures of herself, Shaw boldly faces her own aging while observing nature’s cycles of birth, bloom, and decline and seeing “the quiet promise of renewal” in every moment.
Shaw documents her body yielding to the natural progression of time—its scars, bruises, and marks revealing resilience, vulnerability, and the record of a life lived. These are juxtaposed with poetic images from the natural world that explore the interplay between beauty and imperfection, growth and decay, each shaping and deepening the presence of the other and evoking the rhythms that govern all living things.
